i took this shot sooo long ago im soooo bad at editing concert photos now

i Avoid it

perfecting the in camera settings for this.
the front dial controls the digital filter (bound to toy camera, Color [saturation], high contrast, and vignette),
custom image is set to cross process,
jpeg quality set to 6MP,
"highlight correction" on (helps control the extreme color posterization that can happen around highlights with these setting [still does happen which is fun, just not as dominantly])

look it might be nearly 2 months late but shiv hasnt sent out the post-shivfest email list email either so i think its all good

took a lot of tweaking to keep detail in their dress while getting tones where i wanted

also hi to all the new daily photo clubbers welcome welcome welcome to the super secret cool social platform that is this streak. even if u dont post every day theres always stuff to see c:

trying to be intentional about motion blur, been getting some nice results

first one i did some weird shit with the editing i think its a bit uh fried for my taste maybe? but new thing. did high contrast then lots of dynamic range compression on top

sooo many of my shots got fucked up by harsh red LEDs ; _ ; (this one turned out good tho)

in the span of 7 days I photo'd a rave, a noise show, then helped a friend tour, driving 5 hours there, photod that show, now im home and editing all my shots for that rave cuz I told em I'd be done this weekend hehe.

here's another out of focus type shot, but a different vibe from the last

i got an autofocus lens to make my life on the job easier, the nikon 35mm f/2D.
I'd say like, 10-20% of the time the autofocus noticeably failed, but for the rest of the time it's really made my workflow easier. I can actually shoot at wide apertures and have people in focus! No more guessing my focus in the darkness and no more tight apertures resulting in high ISOs!

In hindsight, I realized I should be shooting with autofocus on shutter disabled and just use the AF button and take over the focus with manual at the soonest sign that the AF was crapping out. This is the theme of my rave assignments, it's 5 hours of grinding photos, I learn a lot fast both during and after the shoot.

Luckily, a few of the times AF failed me turned out to be fun shots, like this one.

Not settled yet on a consistent editing theme for em all so this one is edited pretty neutrally.

slow but steady progress thru these images... the silly reverse vignette and colors and stuff go a long way in incorporating a lot of my mistakes in shooting into a sort of dreamy vibe (well, for some of the shots at least, many are duds)

it was fun to both perform and take pics c:
whenever i get sent the vid of me singing i will not shut the fuck up about it

maaaaaaany photos to go through, the trip was a great way to dive into the deep end and learn how to use this camera and these vintage lenses! (i've learned that I have MUCH to learn).

The following photos are from a concert I wound up at thru sheer coincidence. These are all shot on a pre-AI (Aperture Index) Nikon 50mm f1.4.

I realized after the fact I was shooting at way too low a shutter speed and way too thin an aperture (manual focus in the dark is a CHALLENGE). I could've closed down a stop and shot a stop faster and still woulda been within acceptable ISO range. Learning!

That said, I actually really like the blurriness and unfocus in these, they match the band's unnerving and theatrical noise performance quite well.
