out of focus has been appealing to me again, been taking shots where i just point the camera vaguely at my subject without looking in the viewfinder

flexing my color editing muscles so they don't fatigue. and trying to get df shots to look better. (i think i had rly forgotten that choice of demosaicer matters and that if i don't hit the photo with some noise reduction then my saturation blasting will make sure that noise eats the whole image loll)

perfecting the in camera settings for this.
the front dial controls the digital filter (bound to toy camera, Color [saturation], high contrast, and vignette),
custom image is set to cross process,
jpeg quality set to 6MP,
"highlight correction" on (helps control the extreme color posterization that can happen around highlights with these setting [still does happen which is fun, just not as dominantly])

getting in the habit of just doing this as a default. keep the Q on me all the time, really just snap and not think. its a nice change of pace from my usual meticulous processing. next up im gonna experiment with adding an aperture disk (tinfoil with hole) behind the fisheye lens to see if i can turn it into a focus-free lens.

catching up on editing the many photos i took on this trip so far, here's 3.

got an m42->pk adapter and put the funny gigantic vivitar 85-205 f3.8 on it.
NOT a fun setup to hold its TOO heavy.
but dang it sure can portrait nice. this shot was at 205mm & wide open and is def a bit too compressed for portraiture, it squishes Finn's face pretty flat. but dang look at that tasteful softness.
(this was the best shot out of 20 i took of the cats. would like to try this lens outside and at tighter apertures but its a heat index 110f day today so NO.)

cloudy day,

snap out the car window and snap of bouba.

split toning is kinda fun if a little freaky. makes her eyes look wrong (also minor posterization like effects going on? hm).
much to learn for post processing these shots. the K3iiiM captures so many tones it really feels like a challenge deciding how to compress it down to a jpeg.

bouba was rolling around on the floor and despite all the movement i got these fairly clear shots. the lx3 looks quite good even at iso 400, (b&w helps), and at this close a focus distance u actually get some nice subject/background separation. tiny sensor can look dang good if ur capturing a tiny subject

take 3 images, edit in darktable as monochrome, export all to tifs, gnu imp import all 3 as layers, color > compose using the layers as RGB, badaboom. an image where everything still is monochrome and motion shows up as color.
i took the 3 images using the pentax q's interval shooting mode at 1 second intervals so it would be perfectly still between shots. unfortunately it can only clear the buffer fast enough to take 4 images at that speed before giving up > . >
god i wish i wasnt so hardware limited.
on a nicer camera one could do a burst shot and get some very neat motion across the frames. you could go up to 6 frames if you color the extra 3 as CMY, could do 9 if you let every third be pure luminance. lots to work with depending on the kind of motion you want to capture and how busy you want it to be

my hand is a good subject, it knows just how to pose. b&w on the lx3 has been feeling pretty rewarding lately. trying out new ways for editing. i'm liking where i'm heading.

second image is from adapting my f mount 28mm f/2 to the pentax q using a toilet paper roll... it's not a very good experience, and is soft even when i hit the focus out of luck. eh. using any of my higher focal length lenses like that would be a true nightmare, yet... im still tempted to get a F to Q adapter. at least then i could properly tripod the setup
