loaded question. rhetorical question?
im just pointing the camera at things and taking a picture pshh.
hey wait a minute thats what i do anyways?
well at least with the qlomo i'm not editing anything.
but is it the editing that makes it Art? that doesn't seem right.
and anyway, when i see others' lomo/lofi type shots, i do usually think That's Art.
is it that i've just been snapping my daily life more rather than Going Out for Photos?
well what makes that subject matter any less valid?
and when I Go Out for Photos that. too. is My Life, is it not? are not all my photos "snapshots" in the sense that there is the unspoken message "i was here!"?
ahhhhh ahh ah ah ah h hm.
I have no conclusion or anything but I will say that the qlomo series feels "Like Cheating" but I don't really think that's a fair feeling.

Met this person while out on a photo walk, we sat down and chatted for like 15 minutes. Formed this portrait around our conversation.

can't say i understand at all what all the retinex sliders do but it does do! only complaint is the haloing on highlights i guess? managed to mostly control them. maybe i should actually read documentation...

3 monochrome shots, one filtered red, one filtered yellow, one unfiltered
edited in rawtherapee then loaded into gnu imp. subtracted red shot from yellow shot to produce a psuedo green image, then subtracted the red and pseudo green from the unfiltered to produce a psuedo blue image, then composed the three as RGB. phone photo of the scene is attached. I moved my camera slightly and fucked up the focus when unscrewing a filter so it ain't perfect but it is surprising how "accurate" the colors came out.

normal shot.

normal shot layered with back focused shot with depth of field increased to cover everything but the subject, and a minimum focus distance shot with minimum depth of field.

same as above but "soft light" layered.

same but composed as RGB.

the 43mm f1.9 has quite a lot of focus breathing so its not too good for this effect, still pretty neat though

not much movement in the scene, turned out less interesting than i hoped when i took the pics

similar to the last one but 3 completely separate images composed as HSV layers. looooots of different ways to compose.

take 3 images, edit in darktable as monochrome, export all to tifs, gnu imp import all 3 as layers, color > compose using the layers as RGB, badaboom. an image where everything still is monochrome and motion shows up as color.
i took the 3 images using the pentax q's interval shooting mode at 1 second intervals so it would be perfectly still between shots. unfortunately it can only clear the buffer fast enough to take 4 images at that speed before giving up > . >
god i wish i wasnt so hardware limited.
on a nicer camera one could do a burst shot and get some very neat motion across the frames. you could go up to 6 frames if you color the extra 3 as CMY, could do 9 if you let every third be pure luminance. lots to work with depending on the kind of motion you want to capture and how busy you want it to be

7 exposures stacked, one flash, 6 various handheld long exposures. don't know what animated me to do this, there was a nice subtle light coming through my window in the last minutes of twilight. the stacked photo looks nothing like how it did, but it was a fun process.
