I started doing this song on stream, but when I couldn't really come up with anything I just ended up recording an 8-bar loop and then added some content in Bitwig, like an arp bass, some synth pads, and orchestral ensembles, and now it sounds like a synthwave song.

It's super short because the stream didn't really go that well from a creative output point of view.

Funny thing about that, I think the reason it sounds huge is because there's a kick in the loop, but I also added a kick in the software. Because the kick in the loop was clocked externally, it drifts a little relative to the kick in the software, so by the time the 8 bars are up the kicks are a little bit misaligned which probably adds to the perceived size of things.

I used Bitwig for this and I know they have a "groove" setting to offset the MIDI grid a bit but I didn't try deliberately misaligning it with the audio before. Will be something to experiment with. Thanks for listening @Kedbreak136!

The kick is huge on this one! And it feels organic. I love the arp bass from 0:20 onwards, that is a very nice layer. It mixes well with the orchestral pads.

I performed live for Modular On The Spot at a Community Center on August 28. Great audience, had a decent crowd size, and I received a number of compliments on the set afterward.

I am rather busy tomorrow so I do not know if I can extract audio by tomorrow, so I'm going to post the video below as a placeholder and hopefully get back to editing it by deadline tomorrow.

This one is preparation for a Eurorack Set that I'm going to play live for Modular On The Spot in the city next week Saturday. The set is about 25m long so this song is also pretty long. Sorry about that.

I also streamed this performance (actually, streamed a couple of practice runs).

But I needed something to record. It's very... well, random. The main success point? I was able to make it sound kind of different. Also, I think I need to gate the filter with a sequencer which I'm going to do right now.

Done in hardware, started off as an attempt to learn Metropolix to make more melodic stuff and ended up with extremely atonal and ambient crazy sounds that are chaotic and muffled!

A terrible weight presses on your mind, threatening to break through as you lose yourself to illusions and dark thoughts.

This was a song done with Eurorack modular, SWAM Violin with Linnstrument, and my voice. SWAM Violin was run through a gate on the Eurorack with Metropolix, which is something that I didn't even think about until I actually started, which is SUPER COOL and gives me a venue to try to perform more harmonic content with Eurorack that isn't just bass notes and drums.

The voice was a spontaneous decision and it's run through a bunch of software effects. In an ideal world, I'll do more than Ooohs and Aaaaahs, but also mix it such that it is blended into the rest of the song better with possibly some hardware vocal processing.

I ended up just working on the previous week's song, but I didn't end up finishing the arrangement since I was rather busy with other things I wanted to do (like some commissions that I can't share here). I did add a few parts but I didn't really extend the arrangement so it's like last week's song with a few minor tweaks.

A Eurorack jam. I spent a lot of time with the Metropolix on this one and came across tons and tons of bad takes. I streamed much of it today, but I ended up with a few technical problems and a lot of moments of bad inspiration.

Hope you like it, it's pretty much like a dark techno-y song.

OOOPS I spaced out and continued working past the week's deadline. I started this one and streamed it and then wanted to try to work on it some more before upload and went over by about five minutes.

Sorry, I've been rather lazy about listening and offering feedback to other tracks this week. I'll try to catch up this week.

This is actually the same project as last week's with enough changes that it's basically not really recognizable as the same song. It's not exactly done either (the arrangement isn't really complete, and the "core loops" are not as polished as I'd really like, but what a HUGE difference a week makes.

I was practicing making some trance (though it kind of sounds like House) in Bitwig, so I didn't really get that much done this week. Still learning the UI and learning how things work together in the new environment. Hope for more results next time.

We got our weekly music theme today from Two Hour Track Sunday. We played a (really complicated) game where you had spies and non-spies and the non-spies composed a song according to a "location" and you had to guess first who the spies were and then the spies guessed what the location was.

I ended up spending maybe an hour and a bit on it in total.

The theme was "Cemetery", though part of the game was that you were supposed to make it a little ambiguous so that the "spies" couldn't guess the location!

An initial sketch, it took me about 1.5 hours during OHC, and then I worked on it for an additional 3h 30m during stream, and it still needs more work. I didn't really listen to the master either since it's in such a draft state.

It kind of has some goodness in it, but I forgot to side chain, and the mastering chain really crushed the dynamics so it wasn't quite what I wanted to hear and I cut it too close to the end to adjust it.

This might be a borderline case but this week I was tired and didn't really end up creating a song of my own, but instead ended up doing an impromptu collab with my friend Starla (who runs compo.thasauce.net). Starla produced the track and provided vocals, and I did a guitar solo and some of the male vocal parts so it's really kind of not my track as the main artist but since it was a COLLAB~ I wanted to upload it anyway since I rarely do collabs or contribution of instrumental parts to other people's songs.

Also we did this as part of Two Hour Track Sunday which meant that we decided on what to do in real time in UNDER TWO HOURS over a stream!

I set out today to create an "epic orchestral electronic" track that might invoke images of a final boss battle in a video game.

I don't know if I quite got the "epic" down but it has a bunch of tension and stuff. The song is in A minor, it's 136 bpm, etc. etc. I don't really know what else to say about this yet.

I started this one on my other computer (my old 2013 iMac, but, for various reasons, the old iMac actually performs better than the new Mac Mini I got) and it has templates/sounds that are a little out of date. I streamed that one, and interestingly enough I didn't get audio dropouts at all while streaming but as soon as I bring it over to my new 2018-era Mac Mini it starts to sputter and desync and it's a terrible mess and there's only like 6 tracks or so.

Also it's VGM Con and I'm helping out so I can't really do much with it the song weekend. I'm going to just ditch it and move on with the next project.

I did however learn from the chat participants watching about how they like to bus wet reverb or wet echo differently from dry and compress only the wet signal. I normally don't do that.
