More VCVRack fun, maybe not good to listen to, again this is me getting used to it. Getting beyond the "what does this do?" stage and onto something a bit more organised, I hope.
Trying to get back into VCVRack again, this was basically an afternoon's work.
Like a lot of my tracks this started as something else and ended up being this private-eye glitch tune.
There are other things in real life I'm having to deal with which are slowing my productivity down but I'm still making tracks.
I took a very rash decision and zipped up all my unfinished tracks and put them away. There were so many, some had been there years and not been completed. I wanted to try and see what happens if I had limited tracks, and tried to finish them before starting a new one. Here's the first one.
Something totally different this week. I have found that listening to really minimal ambient music really helps me disconnect and relax, get into the mood for a good sleep. So I decided to make my own sounds. Uploading this mainly because it's music and I made it this week although I really did make this for my own personal use and don't really expect anyone to listen to it.
Did another drum and bass track this week, mainly do these for a weekly stream compo. It's been good fun to try out some new styles.
Finally settled into my new place so am making tunes again. Started off with this hardcore rave tune I made for an informal competition on Youtube. Great fun to do actually, going for a 1990/1991 style slower heavier break jam.
An apt title as I'll be taking a break from this for a few weeks as I'm moving to a new flat. Should really be packing up right now but couldn't resist. Hopefully the break will get me into a position where I'm gagging to get all the creativity out.
Been having a bit of a mess with some interesting sequencers in Live 10 with Max4Live and made this very 2002-ish light FM melodic ramble. It's not a deep dive of generative melodies, quite obvious stuff, but it kept me amused and got me wanting to try something a bit more ambitious.
This again wasn't really mean to turn out like this, was originally me just trying to test out some ways of getting out of some bad production habits I've accumulated down the years. Not even going to bother with the tags on this one.
Found this bit of piano noodling knocking about so built this slow, languid beat around it. That's it really.
(I have now fixed the issues with the reverb on this. For some reason the plug-in I was using was glitchily 'gating' the tail)
One of the things I love about living in the UK is we get interesting weather, sun and rain at the same time, varied clouds, drizzle, damp sunny days. I couldn't live somewhere where it was sunny all day every day, would drive me mad.
Another track that sort of just happened, started out with the underwater plonking noise and went from there really. Yeah.
This week I was trying to get more acquainted with Ableton Live 10, messing about with drum racks and the like, and inadvertently made this. It isn't really a track as such, more a jam. The project was not organised properly, too many effects in the drum rack for instance, not spread across tracks so they were not easily mixed, but that's because it wasn't meant to be. Similarly mastering this was a nightmare as it was difficult to alter frequencies elsewhere.
Anyway, it's a bit of work, I'd rather do something than nothing, plus I am a lot more comfortable using drum racks in Live. So there you go.
Was making a track for something else and began messing with the samples and ended up having a bit of fun with this instead. Serendipity!
This one got away from me a bit but I still like the thickness of the sound. It was a nightmare to separate out the frequencies when mixing so I just gave up. Enjoy the mess.
More lo-fi easy-going sounds inspired by this time of year. Experiencing a mini warm spell in the UK, dusty sunshine through still-bare trees. Beautiful time of year.
Still working on VCVRack bits elsewhere, so for a break here's a more traditional production. Mastering, as ever, leaves a lot to be desired, bit too much high end that needs taming, but generally I like the grittiness and fullness of this. Proud of the beat too, all individual samples, no breaks.
More VCVRack sounds, nothing spectacular but every patch I make adds to experience, that's my philosophy.
Been messing about with VCVRack, I'm no expert on it at all and this is really me just learning the ropes and having a bit of fun. Might be getting the hang of it but it's early days.
Busy week again, really didn't have time to do anything I am proud of. When I do get into production is trying to experiment with other things and not really towards any finished work. But I messed with a few bits here and it's alright.

Ah nice pure synth sounds. I like especially the lower sounds you are getting there, with their slight drive. Cool percussive elements as well, especially the snare with the overdriven bite that rings sometimes. This is a cool track.
