Submissions from 2021-11-08 to 2021-11-15 (8 total)

Submitted for 2HTS, except I was 45 minutes late. Also, I had huge technical issues with this one so levels and quality is TOTALLY OFF and things got crunched up a HUGE amount.

I also started 45 minutes late. So it's not really a good example of quality music-making time this week :(

I may or may not be able to fix the recording issue before the deadline but we'll see.

Trouble's in your face
Permission denied
The paperwork's in place
As our work collides

Should have been hawk-eyed
The words within
Revealed to you the truth
But corporate always wins!

Didn't you take the time
To smell the roses
Don't you read the lines?
Affecting your ways
Protect ourselves,
That's what we do
But why do you not read?
It protects you too.

Running low on time, energy and motivation. This week is another minilogue xd track I complimented with Wavparty drums samples.
I have some catching up to do with last week's submissions. Cheers to all still going strong!

This one came out a bit weird, but bits of it are catchy so I kinda like it. I've recently been trying to program my drums to follow the melody more (since I'm a fan of music that does that). Some of the fills might feel a bit awkward, but I think I'm getting better at it. There's less of a bass focus in this song, which kinda sidesteps my recent muddiness issue. But I should really tackle something drum/bass heavy next time so I'm forced to practice mixing :P

Really had to rush this arrangement and mix because I did not have much time this week. There's even a whole second part that I did not have time to work on at all, but maybe it's actually better as it is now than if I had worked on it too much.

A gentle post-rock ish track in E minor. Not very apparent, but now I also experiment with different timed loops (like 8 bar motive versus 40 bar melody) to add even more variation on the repeats. The synth is sequenced with the Novation Launchpad Pro Mkiii.

Last week was very busy and pretty stressful, leaving little power to go on with the track. I went for this weird speedtrash track, that I feel reflects the mental state I'm in. The weird stress/dopamine induced ADHD-ic energy, it goes over the place and just won't let go. It's not pleasant to listen to, but at the same time, it was not a pleasant week.

I need sleep now.

Some more guitar this week, a simple instrumental classic-rock sounding track. As the year is slowly coming to an end, it seems like inspiration is not visiting as easily, and I realize that after all these years my guitar playing is still far from what I'd like to hear, which is a bit frustrating, that's what you get when you don't practice. ;) Let's hope I will find more time for that next year. Guitars were recorded through a Line6 Helix with a Fender Deluxe model and a Univibe for clean sounds, same path with an extra overdrive for the distorted parts. Bass is through an SVT model, and drums are EZDrummer, slightly customized to fit the track better.

Still chasing that all-guitar thing. Here's a four-track piece with just PureSalem Mendiola (done after an attempt with all-pedal-steel didn't go anywhere good). There's Balls Effects KWB on all these, and one track (the single-note pseudo-bass-line) got high-pass auto-filter.

There's Valhalla Supermassive on one track, and a church-sized convolution reverb on the rest, as well as an audio effect rack on the Wide&Warm preset for eq/compression.

The title comes from M97, the Owl Nebula, in Ursa Major.
