Math Blaster
Math Blaster is a learning game aimed at children under 10. Video games are a powerful medium to convey information to people and I believe that using developing fun and engaging education video games would change the face of education.
In Math Blaster you play as a young boy or girl who adventuring the school grounds. In this world each child is armed with a "number gun" (think air cannon that shoots numbers/equations) To start with you are confronted by the school bully who demands you give him your lunch money. As a way of forcing you to give over the money he starts blasting you with equations that have an actual force behind them because of the air cannon. The idea is simple, you shoot the answers to his equations back at him and he is pushed back by the resulting force. Shoot enough correct answers at him and he is defeated and the player gains points.
The way this game is fun and engaging is by making it multiplayer. Players can challenge each other to duels where they "fight" with equations. The way a challenge would work is players can shoot equations at each other that the opponent will have to answer. In order to upgrade your number gun to shoot more complex equations (multiplication, division) the player would have to complete tests on those subjects.
Using this system would motivate children to learn advanced equations in order to use them on their friends. The head to head challenge would promote fast thinking and competition among the students.
