A ruby red Phoenix rising from the ashes. I'm going to try to draw gemstone inspired beasts from the Harry Potter world for this prompt
Kinda esoteric, but I'm using the etymology of each gem to inspire a BG piece (I need the practice!). Garnet comes from the Latin word "granatum" for pomegranate so I made a fruitstand that sells ~magical garnet pomegranates~!
Heather was so kind as to let me submit for the first day! So here's Garnet Unicorn in all her facet and carved beauty~
Here's my sketch for garnet. Garnet is associated with passion and the heart, so her gemstone is on a necklace so it rests against her heart. Also, she's based on a lion fish.
I am making watercolor gemstones and it's taking longer to dry than I planned. Will submit photo tomorrow with the next gem, Good luck everyone!
Today I wanted to try a different style of illustration! The garnet necklace doesn't "pop" as much as I'd like - maybe if I did the background in cooler tones? What do you think?
Her dress is inspired by Civil War-era ball gowns.
Garnet dragons are docile with cat-like personalities. They represent friendship and loyalty and are often found in groups.
According to crystalvaults.com:
Garnet represents primordial fire, the creation of the world out of chaos, purification and love.
This drawing represents the coming out of chaos.
I decided to paint a cut garnet, because I've never done any artwork of gemstones before and thought it would be good practice. I used watercolour and gouache. I'm still learning how to use watercolours, but I thought the translucent effects they give would be good for the sparkly gemstone. It's not the best thing I've ever done, but it's ok and I feel like I learned from it, which is the main thing!
I really, really didn't know what to do for today and at the last minute I decided Steven Universe fanart. I've like, never even watched the show before lol
