Bought some darker ink to try again. Still unconvincing. It just looks so much nicer while wet! I need to keep experimenting.

Didn't turn out so nice. Ink dries about half as dark as it is when wet. So I had some really nice textures but not nearly dark enough! I overworked it and now it looks meh. I did learn a lot about how watercolour ground behaves with ink though, and if I can secure proper, darker ink I'll get very nice results
