This track was created with all source sounds from my sax. For the rhythm, I sampled various key taps then programmed a beat into DM-1. Then I exported the individual parts into Logic where I further edited my drum beat. I recorded the initial sax pad running it through the Afterneath pedal and then used some Logid effects to broaden the pad sound. I then recorded a "lea" sax line, which I then reversed and placed in a couple places. I exported that lead sax part to my laptop, where I used Traktor to scratch the sample back into Logic. Also tracked some backspins of the sample using Traktor.
This is for a bi-weekly challenge that a Facebook group I belong to is doing. This round is maximum of two synth parts can be used, the rest has to be foley or "acoustically recorded" sounds. I decided to go with no synths. The only thing I might consider is to use a synth bass to add a little more low end, but I think all in all this sounds pretty cool. Your thoughts?
Working on more 8bit influenced music this week because I was supposed to do some busking outside PAX today with some chiptune homies, but that sort of fell through, so I just used that time to finish this song. Feeling very self-reflective these past few weeks...
Didn't have a lot of time this week to work on anything, but I did manage to bust this out today. Far from finished. I'd like to add scratching and saxing to this song. What do you think?
*No samples (yet).
Finally found the time to multitrack something. Put together a little instrumental hip-hop piece as a theme for a side endeavor of mine (see my submission for this week's weekly art).
Threw this together Saturday afternoon in about 5-6 hours. Not a all the type of song I had intended to write, but it was a little sunny out earlier and there was some afterthoughts left over from last week's submission I guess. Is this reggae? Is it dub? Jazz? I'm not a huge fan of reggae (don't hate it, just don't listen to a lot of it), but I do dig dub and dubby sounds. I would have liked to done a little more change ups on the drums maybe. I'm back and forth. Your thoughts and feedback are much appreciated.
For this song I used the following:
-DM - The Drum Machine
- Logic Pro (DAW/various effects)
- Alto Saxophone
*There is a movie sample, but it's pretty mangled, so I don't think anyone would guess it. The other samples are more like foley sounds ran through delay.
Took this week's submission back to my jazz roots. Overall I'm really happy with this song other than my scratching, which need some work (I haven't practiced scratching in about a year). So other than tweaking/re-recording the scratching I'd say I've got a complete song here.
For this track I used the following:
- Logic Pro (DAW/various VST/FX)
- Alto Sax
- Traktor on my laptop for the scratching
Can you guess where this week's sample comes from? It should be pretty easy for fans of the show...
For week five I had originally planned on going back to the aggressive noisier side of this project, but never quite got as noisy as I had intended. For reference, I've been simultaneously producing the new EP for my other project Kylmyys and I think some of that influence leaked back over into what I'm doing for Weekly Music. Not in a bad way of course, just not the vibe I had originally planned on creating. Overall I'm pretty happy with how this song came out. Not sure if it's going to fit on one of my intended upcoming EPs or maybe for a compilation.
For this song I used the following:
- DM - The Drum Machine
- Logic Pro (DAW/various VSTs)
- Alto Saxophone
Can you guess which film this week's sample is from?
For week three I went back to the more aggressive, noisy sounds of the first week. In fact, I believe it will be my intention to alternate between "nasty" and "nice" sounds for the first few months of this challenge. I've been listening to a lot of early music from The Bug lately and I think that it had a bit of influence on where I went with this song.
For this song I used the following:
- DM1 - The Drum Machine
- Various Logic Pro VSTs
- Bass Guitar (with bass POD)
- Drone Thing
- Alto Sax
As with my previous entries, I challenge you to place what movie my samples are from. Can you guess it?
