Too Many Friends is a management game, where you must keep as many friends happy as possible. The player plays as a typical 'popular' person, who after an exhausting day at university, goes home only to find their 'friends' further chatting to them on a Facebook-style website.

When playing, the player is shown a messenger website, where over time, more and more conversations with friends appear after they message the player. They must be responded to within a short period of time, or else they will become unhappy and believe you are no longer someone worth being friends with, consequently unfriending you.

Over time, the entire screen will fill with messages, and the player must first respond to those at the front before they can see the ones behind. The game will become very hectic and quickly impossible to manage.

The moment that this happens, the game ends and you are presented with a score that counts the number of friends that were messaging you before it occurred. "You have x friends!".
