Got a lot done yesterday!

added:

  • finished fish difficulty and word lists for 10 difficulties of fish
  • show/hide typing UI when a fish is hooked and word is typed (disappears when you complete typing word or typed incorrectly)
  • functionality to check when fish is on the line (fish can be hooked)
  • cleaned up code a bit
  • made the game look nicer with some better sky, dock, and water assets

to do:

  • implement fish caught/fish got away behavior
  • create UI (menu, how to play, fish hooked, fish missed, fish caught, fish got away, game over)
  • (maybe) implement parallax sky movement
  • polish gameplay

Very nice looking.

@Beebster

  1. Not yet but that is the plan
  2. You have to press "space" to catch a fish, and there must be a fish within the fishing line trigger to be caught
  3. Not sure what that means?

Does the fish disappear when caught.
If the fish touches the line is he caught.
What is with the subliminal eye sore?

Yesterday was another good day with lots of progress! I changed my theme slightly (different word bank) so the game is now officially called "Fishing For Compliments" :D

Today I'm going to try to get done before submission ends:

  • fix bug where fish sometimes swims backwards if you spell a word incorrectly
  • add menus
  • add some sound effects

If I have time:

  • add an end state (currently you can only fish infinitely)
  • add lower/raise line mechanic, and only hook fish on the red part
(3mb)

Feeling good about my progress! I have:

  • fishies spawning on a timer
  • new fish type spawns when you hit a certain number of fish caught
  • basic typing mechanism implemented
  • new word shown when a fish is "caught"
  • word is destroyed when you finish typing it correctly

Next goals

  • destroy word if player types the next letter incorrectly
  • show/hide typing UI when fish is hooked/word is typed
  • implement mechanic to hook fish

I'm late to starting my fishfest game, but I finally have a pretty solid idea for what I'm doing. Here's a screenshot of my very basic interface so far.

My goal for today is to finish my design doc as there's a few functionality and code questions I need to answer, and then hopefully get the fish movement working.
