I'm working on a space ship shooter game and I've been tasked with coming up with as many different designs of space ships and space ship parts as possible. I didn't make these all in one day, but I wanted to post them so future posts are guaranteed to be fresh material. I can create about 1-3 of these a day.
C&C always welcome, especially pertaining to ideas and techniques for better render quality and for developing new and creative designs.
Pencil and Paper.
I really like the one on the top right. At first glance, it makes me think of a pie. :) But up close I also see a blue whale in it. The middle one that looks like a mushroom is neat too. The bottom one with the joint on the far right... Is it a ship on its own, or a part of a larger 5 ship configuration? *grins*
Are all your designs inspired by organic things in nature? A lot of these seem organically influenced. Just wondering.
I've kind of found that merging layers in photoshop, when working on concept art, is really liberating. Keeping everything on a separate layer seems to not only be a huge hurdle when deciding to make a change, but also stifles creativity.
So, cheers to Merging Layers!
I'm building a game with a friend in the area and the concept is for a space shooter. I've been using Maya for several years, but just recently decided to step up my game with ZBrush.
Besides some stuff that was just for messing around on, this is my first complete (well, mostly complete) model.
C&C welcome especially pertaining to hard surface techniques!

Influenced by nature? Probably. I don't know, though. I wasn't thinking about nature when sketching them out. Actually I would love to get out of that common theme that most of them seem to have. I'm hoping that rinse and repeat will help me break out of that confining shell I seem to be stuck in.
P.S. Some of these are not ships, but parts (like canons, mines, etc.). The little spider-like one is supposed to be some sort of latching explosive mine and the one on bottom is some sort of canon attachment.
