working out how i want these different alien species to look. sorta liking the bird-looking one. its growing on me in a weird way
tablet wasn't working today, so had to go old school.
I've been fiddling with the idea of an extinct alien species with one surviving member. for some reason, I think it would be nice if they looked more bug-like, having several arms and wings and antenna like appendages. will see where it goes

Oh gosh. I feel very unqualified to answer that! Kinda long answer, because I am who I am. Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly. The only advice that really comes to mind is a mindset thing, rather than a skill thing. I overuse 'undo' when digitally drawing and overuse my eraser when using a pencil; ink is the perfect counterbalance to that. As another artist put it, it's the kind of medium that helps a person become less precious about their drawings. A lot of happy accidents come from ink! A lot of gross accidents come from ink too, haha.
If you're looking for a purchase recommendation, and if you have a spare $18, I will shamelessly evangelize my precious brush pen and the paper that works soooooooooooooooooooo well with it. IT'S A MAGICAL COMBO. The brush's ability to vary widths can make for some really interesting drawings, but it's very difficult to get used to. It also works very well with our messy sketch styles (imo). And if you wanna stick to thin lines, Pigma Microns are super. They're like $7 for a set of 6 different widths. These are also good. I'm no good with either of them :(
And if you buy the brushpen or microns and wanna refill them on your own, holler at me! I know the kind of inks to use (that don't ruin them) and it's a very cheap alternative to replacing them.
Oh, super duper zuper important ink tip. Look at all of these drawings and then cry at their skill.
(PS: Thanks for the compliment on my drawings. Super sweet!)
@Ashly got any tips for using ink?
yes, do it! discover a whole new level of resolve!
Ink is the best!!! The permanence is SOOO scary, though.
