These stupid animated pixel things take so much time by hand, and the result is only so so. Is there a better way to do this kind of thing?

Personally I've found it useful to animate the silhouette first all in one color and then add color and highlight to finish. I also find the pickle editor nice for getting started on pixel animations. Just to get a better feel for speeds and movement. I normally bring the sprite maps back into photoshop/gimp to color and embellish.

Thanks! I'll take a look at pickle editor. Your mentioning it actually brought to mind aseprite, which I used a while back, but forgot about.
