The Deep is a game that makes use of a microphone as a way for a player to navigate their way in the depths of the ocean. Integrated as part of a full VR experience, players also wear a system like the Oculus Rift. Playing as a fish with echolocation, players have to use breaths of air into the microphone as they attempt to find their way around levels. Players experience the life of a fish in the very depths of the ocean, navigating their ways through treacherous levels. Playable on PC and consoles, players use their senses as a means to find food. The aim of each level is for the player to collect enough food while avoiding predators. As players utilise their echolocation, predators with the same senses get an idea of where the player is. The stronger a player makes sound or breathes into the mic, the better vision the player gets. As a side effect, the sound that the player fish makes causes predators to actively track them. Players have to balance using echolocation with surviving as they race to complete one of several challenges. Players may be tasked with finding food or escaping from predators as they play through the levels. Players unlock different fish whose body parts function differently with the microphone (such as a lanternfish). These fish function differently and unlock more ways for players to play through already completed levels, discovering new areas and unlockables previously unaccessible.

Adaptive Predators - Enemies will prioritise some other fish over you if you make yourself less obvious. Take note of louder fish in an attempt to complete your objectives.
