Let's look at fairy-tales from before the brothers Grimm sanitized and modified them. Exploring the castle as one of the servants, uncovering the original story - although you'd probably have to sanitize those too. I guess this would work similarly to Gone Home, and could cover other fairy-tales as well. The (one of the, depends which version) author of Bluebeard left a moral condemning the curiosity of women. Lets expand on that - play as one of Bluebeard's wives, see how long you survive before your serial-killer husband gets bored. Or, discover the other bodies and hope you can run fast enough.

So, who remembers the story about three undersized pigs and a wolf? It could be reworked into either a tower defense game or incremental game, where the player gathers resources either in battle or between waves, reinforces the building and the defends against the wolf, or in later levels, multiple wolves. Materials would progress, requiring additional buildings to gather them, technologies to be researched, allowing for weapons, new buildings and defenses. Potentially, the player could go from defending a single pig in a building to a large fort or settlement. The population could be interacted with, allowing mechanics similar to Fallout Shelter, such as skills for certain buildings and resources and managing happiness.
