Extreme sailor is an action/sports game in which the player controls a sailboat in extremely stormy seas and weather. The player is given an end location that they must sail to within a certain period of time, alternatively they can race other players over online multiplayer.

During the race, the player must maneuver over enormous waves, through wind which blows the player's ship one way or another, and through rain which can fill up the ship with water. Though the player must primarily reach the destination, the game is score-based. Score is given to the player when they execute stunts, such as performing a backflip after sailing up a wave - this is also a way to empty the boat of water.

As the player reaches the end location, the next time they play will be more difficult due to bigger waves, stronger wind and rain. The player however can purchase upgrades to their boat with gold earned proportional to the score given to them, these upgrades could include a bigger sail to move faster, or more unrealistic improvements like rocket motors on the sides of the boat to be used in the air while performing a stunt.
