Naval Commander is a naval warfare simulator. The player takes command of the capital ship of a naval fleet, and is tasked on a number of missions ranging from anti submarine warfare, search and rescue, coastal bombardment to all out battles against other capital ships and fleets. The game has two main parts: one section involves the management of fleets around the globe from the command desk of the ship the player is currently stationed on, more specifically issuing orders to other ships around the globe relating to movement, tactics, resupplying and repairing battle damage. The other phase involves direct command of the player characters ship in various naval warfare situations. In the event of an engagement, long range weaponry such as ballistic missiles can damage or disable enemy vessels before the combat phase is entered. Submarines can provide the option for stealth missions on underequipped enemy ships, minefields can be laid as traps, and aircraft stationed on aircraft carriers can provide additional support for warring ships. The combat element itself would be modelled on a similar system to the game Scorched Earth, except in real time instead of turn based. Victory is achieved depending on various conditions set out in the campaign.
