HELLO EVERYONE!!! TODAY IS THE DAY! I have officially submitted Shotgun Goldfish after a decent amount of polishing today! (it is playable in browser for those worried about any viruses!)

One issue I did have today was that as I was making one final adjustment and setting the unity project to a WebGL project I updated a script and received an error that one of the ref.dll files could not be read because "the image was too small". Did I fix this issue? No instead I spent a good 4 hours failing to do so and ended up having to release the game on a backup I made before the issue came up because the entire project no longer works -_- if anyone knows what to do to fix the error it would BE GREATLY APPRICATED because if I didn't make that backup, right now if that comes up in another one of my projects I would straight up not have anything to submit to whatever game jam I would be doing (which is a SLIGHT ISSUE)

I hope you all enjoy my game as much as I did making it! I'll definitely do more game jams in future so keep an eye out for more games from me!

Hello everyone I'm back to show some progress on shotgun goldfish! I have decided to REMOVE the sound/keybind settings because I didn't make the original prefabs modular enough. This is unfortunate but luckily sound can be changed on the player side and the prefabs will just be locked to WASD space and left click on mouse.

Overall today I just did some balancing for all the levels to make them overall easier and less rage inducing. All sounds have now been setup better so that none of them are super loud! The game is now basically finished so ill plan to spend about 6 hours getting extra polish tomorrow and then post the game. I look forward to seeing feedback on my first jam game!

The title and ending cutscene is not complete with music you will only find in those places but I still need to have music fade in and outs between levels

My plan is to have 15 min a really polished gameplay so that I don't take to much of all of yalls time!

Hello again everyone! I'm pleased to announce that I managed to get substantial progress done of Shotgun Goldfish today!

Here is what got done!:

  1. All five levels finished beyond some minor adjustments that will come with extra playtesting
  2. ending cutscene and credits done

There is now only a few things left to do:

  1. images for the main menu/options screens
  2. some sound tuning to make things more/less loud
  3. adding the death count to the end of credits screen
  4. more music!
  5. overall polish

Hello again! I'm back to share progress on my shotgun wielding goldfish game!

Unfortunately i was not able to finish all of the levels as planned but here is what i did get done:
1 made a level transition screen
2 added sound for: enemy death, player shoot, player reload, player death, door open, checkpoint obtained, level cleared, stationary cannon shoot, and a whooshing sound when near spinning spiky balls
3 created and implemented music using beepbox (it is not very good but i did not best any tips would be greatly appriciated)
4 made the second of five levels
5 made the sprites for the ending cutscene of the game
6 made a template for the starting screen that gives the backstory of the game

I'm looking forward to working again tomorrow
I've attached the slower title theme and a layout of the second level!

Hello again I'm back to share my progress for GoldFish shotgun!

Today I made:
1 an enemy that explodes when shot
2 a platform that turns on and off with time
3 made a stationary object that consistently shoots projectiles (just an obstacle with some spice)
4 made a shotgun shell that reloads your gun and gives you an extra double jump
5 added lots more lights to cover up my mid art :)

I now have everything I need for level building tomorrow. I plan on having a total of 5 very unique levels. beyond that I only need to create sound, music, visuals for the menus, and the opening and closing cutscenes

Good evening everyone I'm back for my second log about a game where a fish works to detonate a nuclear powerplant (see past post for context). This is my first game jam and I am a completely solo dev so keep that in mind!

Here are a few things I've done since yesterday:
1 Made a death system with an a quick auto respawn system to get you back in the game as fast as possible
2 made a checkpoint system where you set your respawn point for you next death
3 game a screen wipe for when you die so that death is less jaring
4 made it so that the tilemap spikes now kill the player
5 made an indestructible enemy that moves back and forth between two visible points and kill the player on contact
6 made a door with a button that you need to shoot to open
7 using all above I made the first level for the game featuring ~7 interconnected rooms
8 added a death counter

I only had about 3 hours to work today so less has been done than i would have prefered but ive also begun working on the first few tracks of the game using beepbox

Hello everyone, I'm here to let all of you know my progress!

The basic idea for the game is a mutant goldfish grows legs, finds a shotgun, and seeks revenge against humanity for making him an abomination. His goal is to detonate a nuclear power plant to create an army of mutant fish to storm the beaches of the human territory. The genre will be a platformer (unique ik ik but its my first game jam so withhold the judgement for the time being) but the twist will be that your double jump is tied to you attack so if you need to choose between mobility and offence.

Here what I have done so far:
1 a tilemap system for spikes, fore and background
2 a pretty tight platforming movement system (including jump buffer, coyote time, and slightly floatier controls in the air (take 2/15 of a second to reach max speed))
3 place holder pause menu
4 place holder keybind/sound+Music options menus
5 implemented the unity URP lighting system
6 added place holder shotgun UI for loaded/unloaded
7 finished a few sprites for 3 types of enemies and for an openable door
8 made a sprite for a death counter

I have provided an image of the game in its current state. I look forward to seeing all of your progress!
