Extinction is a 2D side scrolling game where the Earth has been evacuated because of an imminent asteroid strike that is set to destroy Earth. in Extinction you are controlling a rocket ship just exiting the Earth's atmosphere with the last surviving men on Earth. The objective of this game is to escape the field of incoming asteroids and debris from failed evacuation rockets. However after you escape the belt (assuming you do), you will have to now dodge the debris of oncoming buildings that have been launched by the explosion of Earth.
The controls of this game are simple. WASD or directional arrow keys moves the rocket ship around space and dodge asteroids and stray debris. Spacebar allows you to shoot a laser that splits up asteroids in front of you (range of laser is the length of the screen horizontal wise, height of the rocket ship vertical wise.) You only have 3 laser charges per game and these CANNOT be refreshed in any way!
The game has multiple levels of varying difficulty, with the background changing color and showing more background debris/asteroids. As levels progress the size and speed of the asteroids and debris increase. You have 3 lives and lose a life each time you hit a flying particle (you also go back to the beginning of the level). You can gain a life every 3 levels but once your lives are out its game over! You get a score based on how far you traveled (based on how many levels you completed and how far you reached in the level where the last life was lost).
