for an unrelated side projects, i've started getting WSL set up on my system. i don't really like the idea of bogging down my OS with a bunch of programmer installation nonsense that i might not be interested in a few months from now, but this is directly related to modding for a game, which i definitely do need to run on this computer.

plus, WSL isn't really that inconvenient to have around in the first place. i definitely have excuses to use it for other projects. unfortunately it looks like i'm immediately going to downgrade to WSL 1 for the project i want to test. watching a bunch of command prompt lines fail remind me that i should really make complete back ups of my data...
