as a programmer it's a part of my job description to hate naming things. the hardest part about trying to come up with names that rest in the narrative of Satellite is that other people will actually want to use these names to make sense of the different people, groups, areas or objects, and their functional purpose in the game. i'm honestly all about practical names, and i think the main player species should be as well. so names like Town Square for the town square isn't completely out of the question, but maybe i can get a little more creative than that?
some of these names help write themselves. establishing the presence of the robots and other species is leading to certain aesthetic biases that each of them have. so the robots pick conventional names that are written in English and tend to lean towards a kind of archaic description of whatever it is. the shop isn't called The Store or the The Shop, but rather The Keep. something like that.
