Still fighting with terrain painting, but got some work done for the fishfest game jam! Time to add gameplay 👀

made a cool fish(fam)(you)(the player) and soap(item)(gives you more dmg)(because soap makes bubbles stronger or something)(maybe it should make you shoot faster actually?)

I finally managed to make the character setup in unreal

Didn't get as much done as I was hoping. But at least I got a knock-back effect when you shoot the enemies. Tomorrow I want to finalize the enemy types and start working on the sprites to try and make this look like an actual game.

I added a sandy beach around the edges of the screen, some collisions there, a beach ball, and some shells and sand dollars on the beach

I also switched to the compatibility renderer so that I can make a web export and had to mess with the water shader a bit to get it to look alright again

Added a health bar and a food bar today. I also made food pickups add to your hunger bar.

I did a lot of work on this project today, but I still don't want to reveal it yet, idk why, but here is a picture of a message in a bottle that means absolutely nothing.

A cool game me and my friend Wolfrunner are making for Fish Fest

Bugs have plagued us but it works now without issues

So nothing much today actually because I was busy with my exams. However in the time I had I did a bit of menu making and made a name for the game. What are your thoughts?

Im adding an effect on to it to make it seem more like an acid trip.

Today was a busy day for me and my wife, but we were able to make some progress!

We now have room transition between different scenes in the game and we now have the base for a dialog system that I will improve upon tomorrow.

We also created the friend who will put our main character Clowny (temporary name) into serious problems. Right now he's called Ship, the Shrimp. You can see some of our progress on the video and images below.

Tomorrow I plan to finish the dialog system and add a simple cutscene and inventory system for our fetch quest.

Ok so today I have managed to start putting what I have in my script into my engine. A very simple copy-paste process while adding all necessary visuals and stuff. I still need to write the rest of the script but the game itself is not experiencing any issues. Except the image gallery. Fuck the image gallery. (idk why its not working i did all the right steps there shouldn't be issues but for some reason the engine doesn't like me.) Lowkey wanna just abandon the gallery if it keeps not working. Also I installed a plugin that allows for quick time events, so that's fun. The plugin is japanese so I don't fully know how it works atp but it should be some simple gameplay to spice things up a little (lol). I feel like this game would benefit a lot from interactivity in some capacity but I don't know how to make like a fun minigame and don't have the time to find out so here we are.

UPDATE: I GOT THE GALLERY WORKING LETSGO

Hello again I'm back to share my progress for GoldFish shotgun!

Today I made:
1 an enemy that explodes when shot
2 a platform that turns on and off with time
3 made a stationary object that consistently shoots projectiles (just an obstacle with some spice)
4 made a shotgun shell that reloads your gun and gives you an extra double jump
5 added lots more lights to cover up my mid art :)

I now have everything I need for level building tomorrow. I plan on having a total of 5 very unique levels. beyond that I only need to create sound, music, visuals for the menus, and the opening and closing cutscenes

First day of actually working on my game for the game jam got some assets from freakydayz on itch.io

Also got some basic movement code working and got my fishy boi displaying :)

i got the assets done yesterday and today I did the eight-way movement, NPC pathfinding + press space to chomp
also the code needed for the main mechanic is hard so I took a break

Sadly, I was not able to make the cooking mechanics today like I wanted to due to real life stuff. All I made today was this song, which tbh, goes crazy for a silly fish game. Also, I made it so the music rises in pitch and tempo the higher your suspicion meter is.

Progress for today: the UI is pretty much done. All I have to do is pour in the visual novel code and plug in all the dialogue (plus sound) and then I'm done!

Still no gameplay, yet new layer has been added to application.

Now every object can communicate with other without knowing definition of receiver.

I've added cover of FishFest to Main Menu View,
also added some brighter colors to more merrier look.

Not much but hey - it is still honest work. x D
