I'm working on a little project to help developers keep an eye on their web services. I usually don't finish my projects, I would like to finish this one. I've been working on this one a little every day, and would like to keep my velocity and complete the project.

Here's the schpeel:

Web developers have services they need to keep an eye on. There are a variety of open source monitoring tools available, but many of them are built for big infrastructures, have complex interfaces, or take a lot of effort to get running. That's where y2kmon comes in. y2kmon is just a quick `npm install` away, and doesn't use a database.

I've taken good ideas from projects like nagios and apache2, and am building something that's easy to use and simple to set up. Using y2kmon is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Start the y2kmon daemon
  2. Drop a nagios-compatible libexec file into the y2kmon checks directory
  3. Drop a y2kmon task file into the tasks-enabled directory

That's it! y2kmon doesn't require restarts or reloads. All you gotta do is drop in your checks and task definitions.
