It's a cover of a peak 90s song in the style of 2010s (and i guess 2020s, now?) 80s postpunk/darkwave pastiche. Referent arrow diagram imagined as : 2 steps forward, three steps back. Or, why even limit it to steps -- consume all and regurgitate through pastiche du jour meat grinder. Remember that youtube channel that did lounge covers of songs? It's a good cover though -- and lyrics feel relevant to COVID 2020 ennui:

And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake

And, well, we are so far from the image of the shirtless 90s-does-the-70s band playing in hypergreen pastures / bee girl dancing in hypergreen pastures ( in casse you've forgotten, but how could you possbly? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qVPNONdF58 ) . A swarm of ecstatic dancing only happens on Zoom. So, shifting the locus of generational ennui from being Too Free For Society [70s/90s] to being trapped in a cyberworld with no rain [80s/2020s] makes this Work pretty well.

Is the 80s nostalgia boner thing still going to be happening generally, still, after all this COVID? Culturally, I feel like there Has to be a Break from what was happening before. Cycles of nostalgia and regurgitation and Crisis being when the past is near dead but the new cannot be born, and this Event maybe being what finally lets the new be born -- that is for another day. I picked this single because I wanted to go to bed soon.

Anyway - Bee Girl from the original song's music video has a wikipedia page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heather_DeLoach
She got married to a financial advisor and had "several bumblebee details" at her wedding.

Also, gotta love wikipedia references, and the fact that Entertainment Weekly has a web archive. nice tidbit from 93 article about Bee Girl (TO BEE OR NOT TO BEE): When asked about the MTV Awards, she gushes, ”I met Madonna. She was really nice.” *She knows the price of fame. ”I sign autographs. Once I thought I had arthritis I signed so many.” https://ew.com/article/1993/09/24/bee-or-not-be/

I don't think I'll ever listen to this song again. I hope that young people who are also served this on Spotify and who have never seen the Bee Girl music video come upon that video through this song. IDK what it was about that video, but it really sticks with you / stuck with me. I remember seeing a guy at Honcho that had a tattoo of a bee and it said "no rain." Even if the New gets born, we can still have a little nostalgia, as a treat, i hope. Or else i gotta play a lot of catch up 0_0
