Submissions from 2017-04-10 to 2017-04-17 (8 total)

First week back after having to miss two weeks of submissions due to moving and now my lack of internet (posting this from my work computer).
Anyway, I've been prepping some new chiptune beats for a street performance this Saturday out in front of the Seattle Convention Center for Sakuracon. This is one of those completed beats.

I started by loading DM with samples from my "bitkits" library and programmed the beat. Next, I exported the individual drum tracks into Logic Pro where I began creating melodies using the SynthBoy+ controlled by the MicroKorg. After going through different effects and tweaking my mix, I laid down what I like to call my "8bit sax". For this I use the WX5 to control the NESynth Iphone app. I use the app rather than the SynthBoy for live performance because the app is a lot more stable and it can run on batteries rather than having to be plugged in to a power source.

For this song I used the following:
-DM - The Drum Machine
- Logic Pro (DAW/various effects)
- Synthboy+
- MicroKorg
- NESynth on Iphone
- WX5 Wind controller

*No movie sample this week. :)

I wanted to do something ambient this week, and it ended up a bit more dense than I planned, but there three convolution reverbs (two of which, cascading, give that breathing effect), a lot of synthetic percussion, some drum machines, Kastle modular synth, and slowed-down singing bowl (as well as slowed-down in-my-tracking-space ambience). Title from the bell-like tonality of the singing bowl, and the fact that 15 is the fifth Bell number.

I too a break for a while due to life and illness. Tried for something light this week.

Sunday, April 16, 9:10 - 10:00.

I'm going to the museum today so this might be a short affair.

This has a really 90s vibe. Also ignore that transition. That's what happens when you try to make a song in under an hour. The lead also sounds loud. I didn't really spend a lot of time mixing. Maybe I'll fix it when I get home.

Total time: 50m
